The Strauss Festival is the recreation of 18th Century Vienna and the era known for romantic waltzes performed to the music of composer Johann Strauss. The festival takes place the last full weekend in July, with four performances under the stars on Strauss Island in Elk Grove Regional Park. There is no charge to bring a blanket or lawn chair and sit on the grass to view the gala production brought to the public by more than 200 volunteers. There is a $10 per vehicle charge to park a car on premises. The Strauss Festival debuted in July, 1987. It is a non-profit, 501 C 3 organization supported by grants, fundraisers, donations, and sponsors. It is overseen by a board of directors who donate their time and skills along with directors, choreographers, stage managers, dressers, seamstresses, dancers, and a host of others who work to put on the festival each summer.
